Who has ever been left drifting by a dive boat that for whatever reason was in the wrong place of couldn’t see you? Not good, is it? And depending where it happens could be very, very serious. Once divers are lost “properly” it becomes a frighteningly large ocean and SMBs never seemed so small. Asia Divers now has in place a system whereby the guide carries a small radio transmitter that he or she can activate in a situation where they surface and the boat isn’t right there. A radio mast up high in El Galleon will see it and put the location online, then any of us, or any of you if you want to download the app, can have a quick look at your phone and see exactly where the divers are. Coverage is around 20km from the resort. Anyone can own a transmitter, and anyone can log in and use the system. Ask to be shown next time you are diving with us.
